Education Forum Editor Monica Haggart welcomes you to the spring 2013 edition of Edlines
Welcome to the first Edlines of 2013. Health care is under the spotlight this year more than ever before as we monitor and consider how the Health and Social Care Act is unfolding and affecting frontline care. These changes are not static and there is the possibility for even more wide-ranging developments under the same legislation. There is potential for further privatisation of the NHS contained within the NHS competition regulations (SI257). This may be something that you want to see discussed at Congress this year.
Congress is in Liverpool again this year between 21 and 25 April. This event is a wonderful opportunity to shape RCN policy over the coming year and so make a significant difference to the NHS in general and nursing in particular. We hope to meet as many of you as possible there. Please seek out Education Forum committee members while you’re there to discuss any issues. For more information about Congress go to the Congress 2013 webpages
The final report from the Francis Inquiry into the failings at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust and the role of management, regulators and supervisory bodies is also something that is engaging and energising our profession and, no less, your Education Forum. Read the Francis report
This month’s Edlines contains perspectives from our chair and two of our steering committee members. The significance of this report and its effect on the NHS and nursing cannot be understated. Read our perspectives and do contribute your opinions and perspectives in the next issue of Edlines.
If there is anything that you would like to see in Edlines, we would welcome your suggestions. If there is anything that you would like to contribute in terms of news or to stimulate debate or discussion, we would equally welcome your contact.
