Information zone for HCA/APs
Published: 15 July 2011
Tanis Hand, HCA Adviser, wants to know your top websites for VQ support.
We want to make the health care assistant/assistant practitioner section of the RCN website the place to go for information about all sorts of subjects relating to the development, education and employment of HCAs and APs.
If you work in the field of vocational qualifications (VQs), or in a college or university that runs VQs in health and social care or similar, you can help us by completing a simple table, available here (Word doc, 13KB)
We want to hear about your top five websites with a short sentence on why they are useful. We are also building a database of colleges and universities that are offering vocational qualifications so make sure you put your own institution’s website top of the list. We will then add yours to this database so we can signpost prospective students to available places to study.
Education
This section lets you tell us about colleges or universities in your region or country, or about competencies, interesting courses – or indeed anything else that you find useful for your line of work or location.
Employment
Here we will obviously include NHS Careers and job sites, but if you know of any good sources of information about a career as an HCA or AP. Let us know. We will cover apprenticeships too so feel free to add these in.
Career development
This may include competences (we will use Skills for Health information, for example) or you may know local sites that contain information about the developing roles – one example is the EWIN portal, developed by NHS North West and NHS organisations in the North West region.
So it’s over to you! Thank you in anticipation and make sure you return the completed table to hca@rcn.org.uk by 12 August.
