eHealth Forum community
History and background to the forum
The eHealth Forum is the members' forum for all nurses who are interested in the use of electronic and information technologies to enhance the care of their patients. The forum aims to promote, develop and integrate an awareness of eHealth into every area of professional nursing practice, research and education.
The specific areas covered by the forum include the electronic recording, storing and sharing of clinical data (such as electronic patient records) and the governance associated with this. The forum is also interested in the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to support nursing care and patient wellbeing. The forum aims to support nurses in the use of applications such as telehealth and telecare and is also exploring the potential of social media (e.g. Twitter; Facebook) and mobile technologies to enhance nursing care.
The forum is central to the RCN’s work on ensuring that nurses are at the forefront of new developments and are properly supported when using ICT as part of their care. Most importantly, the forum provides an opportunity for nurses to discuss experiences of using technology and to seek expert advice from their peers.
