There was plenty of lively debate at the RCN Annual Congress this year. Here are a few of the discussions that proved most relevant to emergency care nursing.
Single rooms...
The ECA sparked an interesting debate regarding the benefits of single rooms for patients, titled: ‘Room for one?’ Read more on this discussion
Teetotal driving
Carole Evans from the Cambridgeshire branch put forward a proposal to reduce the permissible level of alcohol intake before driving to zero. ECA member Andy Frazer seconded the resolution. Read more
Regulating advanced nurse practitioners
ECA committee member Claire Picton urged Congress to support a resolution to introduce standardisation in the way advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs) are regulated. Read more
Reducing the impact of disability on nursing careers
Congress also saw an emergency resolution, proposed by ECA committee member Claire Picton, to discuss the impact of disability on nursing careers and discuss how the RCN could better support this strand of diversity so as not to lose the experience and empathy that disabled nurses bring.
