Amy Dopson

RGN, RN (Child), MSc – Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Child), PG(Cert) Teaching and Learning, ENB 199, 998.

Amy has been in Emergency Care since 1994 when she moved from Adult Surgery. Having always had a specific interest in the care of children within the emergency department she undertook her child branch training in 1997, and has specialised in Children’s emergency care since that time. Throughout her clinical time in emergency care she has worked in a number of District General Hospitals in the South East, where she has enjoyed the challenges of leading and developing emergency care services for children, within primarily adult focused departments. She also spent a couple of years working at the Royal London hospital, where she particularly enjoyed the experience of working within a dedicated team in a dedicated department, but the challenge of a changing attitudes and developing services has always provided greater motivation.

Despite a brief break from the ED in 1999/2000 when she spent a year in Child Protection, Amy remained in emergency care until 2006 when whilst looking for both a new challenge and a work environment which enabled her to also support her role as a mother, she moved from clinical practice  in to education, joining the child health teaching team at Surrey University, teaching both pre- and post-registration nursing students in a variety of areas.

Amy’s real passions are the two extremes within children’s emergency care, that of Resuscitation and Minor Injuries/Ailments.  She enjoys maintaining her my position on APLS and EPLS faculties and continues to maintain clinical practice working as a Children’s ENP.
