NEWS Autumn 2012
enteric, The Bowel Function Healthcare Technology Cooperative, is one of two pilot HTCs
jointly funded by the Department of Health and the Technology Strategy Board with support
from the Research Councils and the ABHI.
We aim to become the national centre for facilitating innovative technology in the field of disorders of bowel function for the NHS and beyond.

NIHR HTC Funding Application 2012
Enteric passed the initial pre-application for NIHR funding for a further four years and has been entered into the final stage.
A final stage application has now been submitted. It is hoped that enteric will be successful so it can continue the valuable work begun over the last few years.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our partners for their letters of support.

This technology, produced by Eykona Ltd., was initially
reported in the Autumn 2011 Newsletter. The company
has developed a medical device with a novel approach
to 3D imaging and measurement of wounds.
The handheld portable system allows 3D images to be taken in a clinical environment and later analysed using software, providing length, area, volume, colour and other measurements. The main application is in the assessment of external wounds but it is likely to have uses in other fields, where 3D shape and colour need to be accurately recorded for time series analysis, clinical trial or telemedicine applications.

Would you like to be a part of it?
The charity Bowel & Cancer Research, in association with Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, recently announced that a new nationwide network is being developed in order to encourage greater public involvement in bowel-related medical research right from concept to dissemination. It will be based at the National Centre for Bowel Research and Surgical Innovation (NCBRSI) at Queen Mary, University of London.
This initiative is aimed at people from all walks of life with an interest in bowel disease. An Open Meeting is being planned for later in the year to give interested parties more details about the new network.

NIHR Gastrointestinal Infrastructure Academic Meetings
Enteric has been invited to participate in these meetings, to be held every six months. The next will be in Birmingham on 11th and 12th October. These meetings will provide an opportunity for enteric’s partners to submit new medical devices to the team.
