What a year!

Outgoing Chair Elaine Wright writes...

Stepping down

On 1 October this year, sadly, my time as forum committee member and Chair came to an end. Many of you have known that I have spent quite a long time in supporting and promoting imaging nurses across the UK and have tried to create an awareness of the fantastic roles we play in patient-focused imaging care.

I look forward to seeing how the forum progresses, however. Nurses are key in the delivery of patient care in imaging departments and although we may be the minority we have a voice and therefore must change the way we influence decisions being made, especially at the top. Fortunately, the forum now has a strong and passionate committee ready to continue the work we have done together.

We’re going on the road...

Amongst other news, the forum has been busy planning its ‘Imaging Road Shows’ across the UK so that we can meet you all and support you with some interesting topics. See Maggie Williams’ article in this newsletter on education and training for dates and places of these workshops throughout the UK. And of course, if you have some new ideas, please let us know by emailing Maggie at: community.editor@rcn.org.uk.

The imaging nurses competency document continues to develop and hopefully we will have a draft copy ready for the forum’s Cardiff workshop in November. This project has taken quite a while to develop but we must make sure that we get it right. I thank those who have helped with this and I hope to see it soon as a hard copy for downloading from our forum web page.

I will still continue to promote imaging nurses and will be presenting at a conference in Birmingham with regards to nursing workforce and skill mix! It is certainly a hot topic at the moment.

Keep up the good work!

I hope that you continue your support for the forum and will watch it continue to grow into an influential and powerful group that supports its nurses with passion and integrity.

Kind regards to you all.
