Strengthening the commitment: launch of easy read summary
Published: 25 April 2013
An easy read version of the Strengthening the Commitment report designed to be accessible to learning disability service users was launched in London on 11 April.
The event was for for service users, families and carers and was supported by the RCN.
“The report was aimed at service users to inform them of the work we’re doing but also to enable them to direct us with what they need for the future,” said June Brown, a nurse consultant in learning disabilities who led the work of the Scottish Consortium on Learning Disabilities on the easy read report. “They are experts in their own care, and we really need to work together and listen to their views on what skills and competences learning disability nurses need,” she added.
A co-production reference group made up of service users and other experts in learning disabilities helped to produce the report, which describes the findings and recommendations of a major four-country review of UK learning disability nursing which was carried out in 2011-12. Work is still ongoing, see the latest UK update and England progress report.
