Jane ValleIt’s been a busy few months, says Forum Chair Jane Valle

Dear forum members

I’m really pleased to be writing my first letter to you all as forum Chair.

I have been Chair since November last year and have had a busy few months.  I am looking forward to working with you over the coming months to ensure the forum is a strong and effective voice for nurses in management and leadership, within and beyond the RCN.

We are currently engaged in the process of appointing members to the Forum Committee to assist us in that work.  We had a very high number of good calibre applicants.  The three new members will be appointed to join us in October, taking the total number of committee members to seven.

Congress 2012 was successful for the forum and I enjoyed meeting some of you there. The forum had voting members present during every session of Congress.  We had an Event “Leading in Difficult Times” at lunchtime on Monday, so popular that it was standing room only!  Despite a few logistical issues, outside of our control, I had very positive feedback.  The session included an inspirational presentation by Janet Probert, Director of Innovation and Partnerships at Harrogate District NHS Foundation Trust.  We had some interesting comments and questions from attendees and these will be posted on, and responded to, on our website.

This is, of course, a challenging time for nurse managers and leaders whichever sector we work in.  Within the forum we aim to offer support to nurses and hope that many of you will feel able and willing to get involved (please contact natalie.bostock@rcn.org.uk if you’re interested or would like further information).

With best wishes

Jane Valle
