RCN NICE work programme

You can help the RCN respond to NICE consultations

The RCN is a stakeholder for all the health technology appraisals and clinical guidelines which are issued by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) as guidance for the NHS in England and Wales.

Read more about NICE and the work it carries out.

Each technology appraisal or guideline is developed over 18 months or so, and there are various points in the process where the RCN is asked to respond. The RCN relies on members who have knowledge of the specialist issues to help us with this.

Getting involved might mean:

  • commenting on documents
  • providing evidence or statements about current practice and issues
  • attending information meetings for consultees
  • or being nominated as a member of a Guideline Development Group.

Download the August 2006 summary report (Word doc) - this lists current and forthcoming topics, what stage each topic is at, and who is already involved.

If you would like more information, please email Caroline Rapu, Project Leader, NICE Portfolio (caroline.rapu@rcn.org.uk), particularly if you have the expertise and the time to help the RCN respond to any of these important topics.

It is important that nurses are able to participate in this important NHS guidance, and the RCN would appreciate your contribution.
