Critical Psychiatry Network - The 'Bradford Group' of psychiatrists first met in Bradford in January 1999 and has since made clear its opposition to compulsory treatment in the community and reviewable detention for people with DSPD. The group provides a network to develop a critique of the contemporary psychiatric system.
Dave Sheppard Associates Ltd - This website provides members with up-to-date information on mental health law and practice developments through courses, consultancy, in-house training and a monthly bulletin.
Depression Alliance - UK charity run by people who suffer from depression. Website includes details of how to subscribe to a regular newsletter.
Eating Disorders Association - The EDA website includes details of the association's network of support and self-help groups and other information about all aspects of eating disorders.

Global Initiative on Psychiatry - An international foundation for the abolition and prevention of 'political' psychiatry wherever it occurs. Global Initiative aims to stimulate mental health care reform in the countries of central and eastern Europe and the newly independent states where much political abuse of psychiatry occurred, and in which, as a result of many years of dictatorial rule, mental health care is lagging far behind western counterparts.
Improving Mental Health Information Programme - This programme supports the development and implementation of mental health policy in Scotland.
Institute of Psychiatry: Psychiatric Nursing Section - Headed by Professor Kevin Gournay, the Institute's psychiatric nursing section was established in 1987. Its three major strands of activity are research, training and policy. Most of the nursing-focused research is conducted within the context of multidisciplinary groups and is the largest of any similar unit in the world.
Internet Mental Health - A detailed online information resource set up by a Canadian psychiatrist and aimed at all those with an interest in mental health issues.
London Development Centre for Mental Health - The London Development Centre for Mental Health aims to support the improvement of mental health and mental health services in London. It is one of eight regional development centres in England that are part of the National Institute for Mental Health in England. It works closely with London's stakeholders.
Manic Depression Fellowship - The Fellowship works to enable people affected by bipolar disorder (formerly manic depression) to take control of their lives. It runs a number of self-help groups, provides information on all aspects of manic depression and a range of services for members, including training in self-management techniques.
Mark Walton - Provides advice on application of the Mental Health Act 1983. A comprehensive source of information on mental health law.
Matthew Trust - This charity is a national mental health and penal reform group but is also a caring agency for people in special hospitals and former patients, the mentally ill in prisons and those who have been discharged into the community, 'the mentally distressed in society' (mainly those under a section of the Mental Health Act) and victims of aggression.
Mental Aftercare Association - MACA says it is one of the leading mental health charities in the UK. It is active in the community, in hospitals and in prisons, supporting people with severe and enduring mental health needs and their carers.
Mental Health Act Commission - Website of the body charged with safeguarding the interests of all people detained under the Mental Health Act.
Mental Health Alliance - A coalition of 75 user groups, major charities, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, psychologists, lawyers, voluntary associations, research bodies and carers’ associations. It is campaigning for a new mental health act that provides a legal right to assessment, care and treatment to help reduce the use of compulsory powers.
Mental Health Foundation - A UK charity working in mental health and learning disabilities. It undertakes research and community projects that aim to improve the support available for people with mental health problems and those with learning disabilities. Its website includes information about the Foundation's work with a link to the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities, which is part of the Mental Health Foundation.
Mental Health Nurse Academics (UK) - MHN education and research are central to ensuring that MHNs are equipped with appropriate values, knowledge and skills to use the best evidence to deliver user and carer-centred care.
Mental Health Specialist Library - This is the mental health branch of the National electronic Library for Health. It provides information on depression, suicide and schizophrenia.
NALNECT (National Association of Lead Nurses in ECT) - The NALNECT committee has now created a website specifically for mental health nurses who work in ECT clinics
National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH) - The National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH) is one of seven centres established by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) to develop guidance on the appropriate treatment and care of people with specific diseases and conditions within the NHS in England and Wales. Established in 2001, the NCCMH is responsible for developing mental health guidelines, and is a partnership between the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) and the British Psychological Society (BPS).”
National Inquiry into self-harm - The two-year Inquiry into self-harm found that health, education and social care professionals are not receiving the guidance or formal training they need to support young people who self-harm. It has produced a report into its findings - Truth hurts, which reveals that young people who self-harm are more likely to turn to friends their own age for help, rather than relatives, teachers or GPs.
National Social Inclusion Programme - The National Social Inclusion Programme brings together the work of government departments and other organisations in a concerted effort to challenge attitudes, to enable people to fulfil their aspirations and to significantly improve opportunities and outcomes for people with mental health problems.
Pre-Therapy International Network - This website is an international site with bibliography; it is used by members of the Pre Therapy International Network who work with Prouty's Pre Therapy.
