Get involved
There are two ways for you to make your voice heard:
- Your community discussion area
- Email the editor
The Discussion Zone is easy to use and is an excellent place to share news, views and ideas.
However, if you send in a written feature article or opinion piece then it could be published in this area of the community by your community editor.
By members, for members
The Fertility Nursing Forum community will be tailored to meet your informational and communication needs. An ongoing training scheme for volunteer community editors, recruited from the community has been established to update the website.
If you have information you would like to see on your community pages then send it to the community editorial team. Your editorial team will be able to decide where to put the information on the website. In this way, we hope to build up an excellent informational resource for community members.
Types of information you may wish to send are:
- News
- Events, conferences and meetings
- Opinion
- Feature articles
- Consultation documents
- Useful links
- Resource material (books, manuals, websites, etc)
- Anything else you feel may benefit members within your professional community.
It is helpful to have more than one editor for each community area so the time commitment required can be kept to a minimum. If you would like to become an editor for this community then please email the editor.
Guide to Contacting your local MP
A crucial time for you to support your patients and improve IVF services
"Dear Colleague
You will be aware that NHS funding for IVF cycles has always been a great concern for patients and professionals working in this field because the NICE Guideline of three full cycles has never been fully implemented and commissioners use widely differing criteria for selection and in some cases fund no treatment at all. The National Infertility Awareness Campaign has been campaigning for many years to rectify this.
However now is an absolutely crucial time to give the strongest support possible for the commissioning of services to be made through the National Commissioning Board rather than through the proposed local GP Commissioning Groups.
Your voice as a nurse or midwife who cares for these patients is very powerful and it will make a great impact if you all write individually to your local MP, the Secretary of State for Health and Minster for Public Health.
We know how busy you are so to help as much as possible we are sending draft letters, Nurse-Constituent Letter, Patient-Constituent Letter, Template letter-Nurse
Template letter-Patient, full addresses and how to find your local MP (see the guide to contacting your local MP). You can send the letters as they are but don’t hesitate to change them if you wish to do so.
Many thanks
Debbie Barber

Community discussion area
Your Fertility Nursing Forum community discussion area is the place for you to interact with other community members and start a debate on any matter relevant to your community. It may be more beneficial to start a conversation on a subject area rather than emailing the editor with your opinion.
You are free to say what you want, but please adhere to our Acceptable Use Policy.
Your comments
Beneath many of the news, opinion and feature articles within your community, community members will soon be able to post a brief comment about the article. Again, please adhere to out Acceptable Use Policy.
Future community developments
This is just the beginning for your community. Future community enhancements are planned to open up more two-way communications channels between members and the RCN as an organisation. New developments will be advertised on the RCN website.
