Guiding NICE on multiple sclerosis
Published: 14 December 2012
The forum has represented MS nursing at a number of NICE’s single technological appraisals and workshops relevant to MS, including those for the drugs Sativex and fingolimod (the first oral drug for MS). We have also been consulted regarding the new MS clinical guideline. This work has been undertaken in close collaboration with the UK MS Specialist Nurse Association (UKMSSNA), the MS Trust and the MS Society.
The forum remains active and supportive in promoting the voice of expert, specialist nurses at all levels and as such we actively encourage neuroscience nurses to participate in NICE activities. In fact, a reflection on the experiences of an MS specialist nurse participating in NICE will be published in the Nursing Standard in the future.
Think about participating – it is personally enriching and an excellent way to enhance your professional development. Advice, guidance and information on how to go about this are readily available from any of the forum committee.
