Online learning platform for multiple sclerosis nurses throughout Europe

Published: 14 December 2012

The forum has been involved in the early scoping, desktop research and subsequent development and accreditation of an e-learning modular programme to unite multiple sclerosis (MS) nurses and increase quality of care for people with MS and their families whilst directly addressing the European Commission’s Green Paper – Modernising the Professional Qualifications Directive (2005/36/EC).

Endorsed by Rehabilitation in Multiple Sclerosis (RIMS), the European Multiple Sclerosis Platform (EMSP), the European Association for Neurosciences Nurses (EANN), the International Organization of Multiple Sclerosis Nurses (IOMSN), the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and the UK MS Specialist Nurse Association (UKMSSNA), this pan-European project is being translated into a number of languages and is being accredited by individual educational bodies throughout Europe.

There was a successful pilot in May in Malta and a “soft launch” in Spain in September.

This is a unique project and looks to unite those nurses across Europe who care for people living with MS. A European Federation of MS Nurses is planned for the future and the forum remains at the forefront of this pioneering, multicultural working.
