Hazel’s independent commissions have encompassed national policy, research, education and practice for the Department of Health, Nursing and Midwifery Council, RCN, various universities and national charities. 

Hazel has held appointments as the Senior Teacher in Nursing Theory and Practice at Barts in London, the RCN’s Adviser on Nursing and Older People and Editor of Nursing Older People journal.

She has published widely, including six textbooks on nursing and older people’s care. She also has extensive experience in nursing journalism and journal editing.

Hazel is currently working with an international collaborative to develop new approaches to older people’s nursing.
