Dementia update
Published: 26 February 2013
The RCN Foundation is now supporting the delivery of the RCN's dementia work, including a new development programme for hospitals which is being launched in March. This year-long programme will help to support improvements in the delivery of care and evaluate impact on patient / carer experience. Several applications to participate in this programme have been received and successful participants will be announced shortly.
See the RCN's dementia webpages for further information as well as links to the dementia resources which were launched last year.
In December last year a survey of dementia nurses specialists was disseminated to many of our members. Thank you to all those of you who contributed. This information has been collated and will be used to inform a report on the role and contribution of dementia nurse specialists hospital settings. Once complete this report will be shared and made available on the RCN website. Look out for it in the next few weeks.
We are currently working with Carers Trust and Dementia UK to develop a partnership model for engaging with families and people with dementia. We hope to launch this late spring, so keep an eye on updates on the website.
Finally we are also keen to learn from those of you who are supporting people with dementia and their families in other settings and are planning to develop an RCN community of practice to share and learn from each other, particularly around preventing avoidable admissions to hospital.
If you are interested in being part of this community, please contact Nikki Mills (Dementia Project Co-ordinator): nikki.mills@rcn.org.uk
