New ophthalmic nursing career and competence framework
Published: 12 November 2012
The RCN Ophthalmic Nursing Forum is pleased to announce the launch of the latest edition of Ophthalmic Nursing: An Integrated Career and Competence Framework. It has been developed by members of the forum itself, with input from other RCN forums, and guided by the members of the Ophthalmic Forum steering committee.
This edition combines the strengths of the last edition with the inclusion of contextual factors to signpost practitioners to sources of evidence and identifies specific clinical skills that can be utilised to support their ophthalmic competence mapping.
In addition, it provides a framework for managers to use when appraising ophthalmic nursing staff as well as for workforce planning or the development of training programmes. It has application in hospital, community and social care settings.
From today, electronic copies of the competency framework can be downloaded from the RCN Publications pages (PDF 1.8MB) [see how to access PDF files].
There are also a limited number of hard copies available for RCN members to obtain free of charge, by calling RCN Direct on 0345 772 6100 and quoting the publication number 004 350.
