Report and action plan 2008-2009
Group overview/aims and geographical details
Originally formed in 1989 as the East Midlands group, our main committee covers Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire. However members from throughout the East Midlands are welcome as are any other delegates to our study days/seminars. We aim to promote the practice of trauma and orthopaedics by these learning events and networking with our colleagues within the region, nationally and internationally.
Professional seminars, meetings and study days held
Study days held annually or biannually. We are planning our next event for November 14 2009 at Lincoln to celebrate our 20th anniversary.
Approximate membership
68 registered.
Regional and national links
Local group secretary (Chris Knight) is SOTN Newsletter Editor; SOTNNG treasurer, Ruth Hartley, is representative for Acute Forums on the East Midlands Regional Board; committee member Darlene Lathall is membership secretary for AOT; Peter Davis is Founding Editor and Bryan Smith is Co-editor of the Journal of Orthopaedic Nursing.
International links
Nottinghamshire has links with CONA Twin Chapter Toronto. Joint conference presentations of members of SOTNNG with Toronto members have taken place in the past. We had hoped to video-conference our next study day but lack of facilities, at the Toronto end, have proved impossible to redress.
Plans for the coming year
To be able to sponsor local members to attend national and international conferences and promote further attendance at study days and seminars. As this year is our 20th anniversary we would hope to revitalise attendance.
