Dear

Thank you for your enquiry about The Network for Evidence Based Practice in Orthopaedics and Trauma (NEBPOT), formerly Focus for Research in Orthopaedics Group (NEBPOT). This group was formed in 1996 by Peter Davis for Trauma and Orthopaedic nurses with more than a passing interest in research. It is a sub-group of the Society of Orthopaedic and Trauma Nursing (SOTN) and membership is open to anyone who has an interest in orthopaedics and research. The group is currently co-ordinated by Lib Jones and Mark Limb.

The aims and objectives of the group are also enclosed; these are reviewed and updated regularly by the members. The main purpose of NEBPOT is to provide a forum for discussion by meeting regularly. At these meetings members can present research ideas, disseminate results and generally network over a cup of coffee. NEBPOT members host these meetings at venues around the country and they are generally very friendly and informal. Members are encouraged to attend meetings if possible, but it is not obligatory. Details and an agenda are circulated in advance to allow people to plan their diaries. In order to facilitate planning of these events, we ask that you inform the co-ordinators in advance if you are planning to attend.

If you decide to become a NEBPOT member you will agree to have your details added to a database, which includes information about any research interests or areas of expertise you might have. This database is accessible only to NEBPOT members, allowing them to network with each other when looking for research help, advice and support. As a NEBPOT member we ask you to make it clear when contacting each other that you too are a NEBPOT member and have accessed their details from the database. This is to reinforce security and maintain confidentiality. We as NEBPOT co-ordinators undertake to maintain the database, and in turn, we ask you to inform us of any change to your personal details or if you wish to be withdrawn from the database.

We also reach the wider SOTN membership through regularly publishing in Bare Bones and the Journal of Orthopaedic Nursing. There is also now a NEBPOT website which has just gone online at www2.rcn.org.uk/researchanddvelopment/NEBPOT/

If you wish to join please fill out the joining/updating form. If possible we would prefer that you email it back to us, but posting is still acceptable. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact either Lib or Mark.

Look forward to hearing from you

Lib Jones and Mark Limb

NEBPOT Co-ordinators.
