In response to the recent Francis and Care Quality Commission reports and concerns raised by the public, health care professionals and politicians, the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust (WCMT), as part of its Travelling Fellowship scheme, is seeking to support a new category of Fellowships which focus on patient care.
The WCMT plans to award ten Travelling Fellowships each year from 2014 for three years to individuals in the medical, nursing and social professions with projects to improve the way people are treated when in medical and social care across the spectrum of locations. The WCMT is looking for projects that have an emphasis on respect for the dignity of the patient and those which address leadership and team working. A WCMT Travelling Fellowship gives people an opportunity to visit centres of excellence abroad, gain knowledge and return with ideas which could have an impact on improving patient care in the UK.
The Burdett Trust for Nursing is helping the WCMT to co-fund these Fellowships, and the WCMT are working with both FoNS and the RCN to best co-ordinate and disseminate the key findings of these Fellowship projects. Applications for 2014 are now open on our website www.wcmt.org.uk and close at 5pm on 24th September, and please select Medicine - Patient Care on the application form.
