Children's Surgical Nursing Forum
The Children's Surgical Nursing Forum was first formed in 1990 and forum status was gained in 1998.
The purpose driving all of the forum's activity is to improve the quality of care for children and families undergoing surgery.
The forum aims to:
- Provide a forum for members engaged in, or actively concerned with, the care of children undergoing surgery to meet together and share their common interests and concerns, research and evidence-based practice
- Increase the awareness and recognition among professional colleagues and in the public mind, in both the United Kingdom and overseas, of the needs of children undergoing surgery and their families
- Raise awareness within the multi-professional team of the contribution of nursing to the care of the child experiencing surgical intervention
- Provide an expert body of knowledge on professional matters related to children's surgical nursing
- Contribute to the development and recognition of children's nursing in collaboration with the other children's nursing groups within the RCN
- Raise awareness of the national and local health policies and their impact on children undergoing surgery and the nurses caring for them, particularly in relation to quality, resources and clinical governance.
