Paediatric Emergency Care Group

The group was originally established to provide information and support to A&E nurses with a specific interest in the care of children.

In recent years emergency care has progressed beyond the traditional geographical boundaries of A&E departments. With the development of walk-in centres, minor injury units, NHS Direct, emergency care practitioners, first contact practitioners and a plethora of other roles designed to meet the unscheduled care needs of individuals, the time had come to re-define the purpose of the 'Child in A&E Special Interest Group'.

In January 2004, the group officially became the ’Paediatric Emergency Care Group’. In August a new committee was formed and a strategy for the coming year established. It is hoped the group will now prove to be a resource to nurses and other health professionals who provide emergency care for children, whatever the setting.
