Children’s and Young People's Rights and Ethics Group
The first meeting of the group was held in November 2003, as a sub group of the General Children's Nursing Forum (GCNF). Initial plans to devise a Philosophy of Children's Rights and Ethics are currently underway.
Links are being made with other groups within the GCNF:
- Education Group - in respect of ethical issues related to using patient information in academic work
- Surgical forum - in respect of consent to treatment guidelines for children and young people
Purpose
To participate within the GCNF and act as a group resource to discuss and develop guidance and information for children’s nursing in respect of the rights and ethical issue which inform the care of children and young people.
Aims
- To provide a forum through which nurses may address ethical issues that arise in the care of children and young people
- To promote the knowledge of children’s rights (UN Convention on Rights of the Child, 1989) and their application in all levels of care and service development and delivery
