Alison's manifesto

"I have been actively involved in RCN children and young people’s groups and forums for the past ten years. I have been a steering committee member of the pain in children group and of RiCH, and I currently chair RiCH and the General Children’s Nursing forum. I am, therefore, aware of the challenges facing all groups/forums as they strive to identify and realise what their members want. I also have a good understanding of how the RCN works.

As member of the children and young people’s field of practice advisory panel since its inception, in my view the current structure has enabled the children and young people’s groups/forums to work more cohesively. However, I am aware that some aspects could be improved – for example, developing more meaningful relationships with other fields of practice. If elected chair of the children and young people’s advisory panel I would work to ensure that in the current restructuring of professional services we maintain what works and  change what does not work so effectively.

I have worked in both children’s hospitals and district general hospitals, and in several universities in England and Scotland. I thus have insight to the impact of devolution on health policy and practice and recognise the importance of the RCN incorporating a four country perspective as well as acknowledging and addressing the differing needs of members dependent on their area of work. As a lecturer and researcher I am a confident public speaker and have published several papers. I also have good interpersonal skills and enjoy networking. These skills would be advantageous if elected chair of the field of practice. In this time of major change and the development of an RCN professional development framework I would consider it an honour to lead the children and young people’s field of practice."
