Letter from the Chair: COLIN WAY (Spring 2009)
Celebrating a quarter-century of specialist children's nursing
And a very happy 25th birthday to us all!
In 1984 the first CYP nursing adviser was established at the RCN and from this came the development of forum groups which would eventually become today's field of practice. While there has been much change during this time, one fact remains constant, namely our commitment to championing the health and wellbeing of children and young people.
Throughout 2009 we are planning celebratory events, starting with a number of educational fringe events at Congress in Harrogate (10-14 May) and the annual CYP Congress Dinner, supported by the Community Children's Nurses Forum, where we will officially pay tribute to our quarter-century at the RCN.
A multimedia resource and printed publication will be developed to record and commemorate this milestone and we are keen to receive archive material or personal commentaries, both written and pictorial, from nursing and medical colleagues involved in health care over the years.
These celebrations will continue at our national conference in Liverpool (11-12 September) with a truly four-country approach.
It only leaves me to say that I look forward to celebrating with you in Harrogate and Liverpool.
