Community children's nursing community

The Community Children's Nursing Forum (CCN) was established in 1987 and was originally referred to as the Paediatric Community Nurses Special Interest Group. Initially there were only 27 members - almost all of the PCNs/CNNs in the whole of the UK at the time. We now have over 1000 members, we are the main focus of CCN activity in the United Kingdom and are widely recognised both within and outside of the RCN as the voice of children's community nursing.

Purpose

The Forum seeks to support, maintain and develop the provision of high quality nursing care for children with healthcare needs in the community. This should include support of clinical practice development, the delivery of evidence-based practice, strong nursing leadership and child-centred approaches to nursing education and within the context of multi-disciplinary/multi-agency service provision.

Aims

  • To support and ecourage the growth and development of community children's nursing services throughout the UK, seeking to establish a nationwide CCN service.
  • To provide a source/channel for advice and support on aspects of CCN practice both within and outwith the RCN.
  • To support the development of local networks for community children's nursing services throughout the UK.
