History of Nursing Society community
Welcome to the RCN History of Nursing Society community
About Us
The history of nursing encompasses the story of the largest section of the health care workforce, in war and peace, home and hospital, since records were first created. It includes the nursing care of adults, mothers and babies, children, and people with a learning disability or mental health problem. With over 800 members, the RCN History of Nursing Society is the UK’s largest membership organisation in this rapidly growing field. The aims of the History of Nursing Society are:
· to support and promote general interest in, research and education around the history of nursing, midwifery and health visiting
· to promote and develop the study of the history of nursing through discussion and debate
· to organise RCN History of Nursing events to promote the work of the society and to disseminate research, study and information
· to establish links with other history of nursing groups within the UK and internationally
· to protect, preserve, share and cherish our nursing heritage
· to promote the RCN historic collections through collaboration with RCN Library Archives and Information Services.
