The IBD nurse: 2011 Project
This is the first national audit of IBD nursing within the UK. It has been designed by IBD nurses, for IBD nurses.
The audit captures the number of IBD nurses across the UK, some details of their backgrounds and roles, their service and their activity.
The main aims are to:
- provide direct feedback to each participant and their manager to show local impacts of the IBD nursing service
- providing national evidence of IBD nurses activity and effectiveness
- evaluate nursing services and identifying areas for improvement
- provide an ongoing tool for future audit and comparison
- to compile a confidential database of IBD nurses.
The audit has been sent direct to IBD nurses identified by the IBD Forum and is divided into three stages:
- Part 1 Registration profile.
- Part II Service profile.
- Part III Daily activity audit.
All nurses will complete Parts I and III. Part II of the audit will be completed by a designated nurse from each individual IBD service.
All responses are confidential.
Regional champions (PDF 53.2KB) are available for support .
Instructions for completing Part 1
It should take you between 10-15 minutes to complete this part of the audit. Before starting, you may want to find out how many study days relating to IBD you have undertaken in the last 12 months. This includes study, conferences, educational sessions, and self-directed study. Do not include mandatory training. Also you will be asked to say how many of those days were in your own time.
Your unique identifier will be your e-mail address and this will be asked for at each stage.
All questions are mandatory and must be completed before moving on. You can save the data and return to complete at a later date, but we would encourage you to try and complete this section in one sitting.
Instructions for completing Part II
This part of the audit is about the IBD nurse service provided. Each service will be required to complete this but not each individual nurse. The service may relate to more than one nurse.
It should take you between 30-40 minutes to complete this part of the audit. You will need to know the total population served by your service so you will need to find out this information in advance. You may be able to get this information from your general manager, lead clinician, or from JAG visits to your endoscopy unit.
All questions are mandatory and must be completed before moving on. You can save the data and return to complete at a later date, but we would encourage you to try and complete this section in one sitting.
Instructions for completing Part III
The daily activity audit covers 14 consecutive days from 09 May 2011 to 22 May 2011 inclusive, and you will be asked to input your email address for each day you are entering activity data.
A paper tally sheet can be downloaded. This tally sheet is something you can carry around with you during your working day to be filled in as you go along. This will then give you all the information you need to complete each day’s audit.
You do not have to fill in the audit data on line each day. You may choose to complete all daily activity in one go, but you will need to complete a tally sheet for each day you work as this will make it easier for you to complete the data entry in one sitting.
Please note that the audit will close on 27 May 2011 so you must ensure all your data is entered by that date. It should take you about 5 minutes to fill in each days audit if you have completed your daily tally sheet.
All questions are mandatory, so if you have not performed any part of the audit during the working day please entered “0” in the answer space.
