EasyJet agrees to buy GB Airways
EasyJet plc announced at the beginning of 2008 that it has agreed to acquire the entire issued share capital of GB Airways Limited, excluding its slots at Heathrow Airport.
GB Airways is primarily based at London Gatwick and serves destinations across Southern Europe and North Africa under a franchise with British Airways. It will continue to operate all routes under the British Airways brand until 29 March, after which flights will operate under the EasyJet brand.
GB Airways currently serves 31 destinations and operates 15 Airbus aircraft (nine A320s and six A321s).
The EasyJet fleet consists of 107 A319s. In total it operates 39 routes – 28 from Gatwick, six from Manchester and five from Heathrow. The airline will be fully consolidated into the EasyJet business model by next winter.
