New hand baggage guidelines

New guidelines were issued on 7 January from the UK Department of Transport to advise that passengers will be able to carry two pieces of hand baggage through security when departing from London Heathrow, London City, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow or Manchester airports. However the one bag rule still applied to London Gatwick at the time of going to press. According to London Gatwick, they are limited by the numbers of staff, but are hoping to change their procedures by Easter.

Other UK airports are expected to phase out restrictions in line with the new guidelines. Until this happens, the one-bag allowance still stands for all other UK airports. If you are flying from or transferring through other UK airports, it’s worth checking with the transferring airline or the airport operator before you travel. Also check if you are flying from another UK airport and transferring through Heathrow.
