The Learning and Development Programme for Representatives

The purpose of the learning and development programme for representatives is to enable you to develop the competence and confidence to perform in your role as an RCN Representative. 

If you are an RCN Representative working in Scotland, Northern Ireland or Wales, please contact your local RCN office. They can let you know about the programme schedule and the nomination/ application process.

Heather Callingham, a LR from the Eastern region, has recently attended the LR module 2 programme. Heather said of the programme:

"The learning rep module was inspirational and gave me direction and focus enabling me to have a much clearer insight into the role of the LR and how I could develop it within my workplace. The sessions were well facilitated and used dynamic methods of delivery using group work to demonstrate concepts. The group was diverse bringing a wide variety of experiences and ideas which became powerful tools for learning.

I started the week unsure of the role of a LR and finished the week feeling ready to face the new challenge of the role. I am now able to see the direction of the role and feel confident interacting with RCN members and Trust representatives. I feel I am now able to inspire others in their life-long learning and facilitate new learning where possible.

Each individual contact I make with members brings new challenges and new learning for myself. I utilise these experiences to do the best for members in a fair and honest way guided by the RCN code of conduct."


UK Political Leadership Programme (PLP)

The UK Political Leadership Programme is an innovative action-orientated programme designed to develop the political skills and policy know-how of active members and builds upon the successful Forum PLP which has now run for six years.
