Prison Nurses Forum (1175)
The forum was established approximately 10 years ago when more locally employed nurses started joining the prison service in a non-uniformed role.
Purpose
- To be representative of all prison nurses nationally and within the RCN.
Aims
- Promote the role of nurses working in custodial settings.
- Increase awareness of working in prisons as a career opportunity for all nurses.
- Develop the role of nurses working in prisons.
- Improve the health of prisoners and of the environment including public health.
- Develop nursing services for the highly vulnerable prison population.
- Develop a network of support for nurses working in prisons.
- Take prison nursing issues forward – for example, NMC, Scottish Parliament, etc.
- Be a source of advice for colleagues working in prisons in other parts of the world.
- Agenda for Change support.
