Scots plan move to register with two GPs (17 June)

The Scottish Executive, now in the hands of the Scottish Nationalist Party, is reported to be considering a plan to allow patients to register with a second doctor near where they work.

So-called “dual registration” has been rejected by health chiefs in England for fear that GP lists would be overwhelmed.

But Nicola Sturgeon, the new Scottish Health Secretary, indicated that the issue would be looked at as the Executive seeks to increase access to primary care services.

She also announced that the new Executive would publish its own blueprint for health care in Scotland by the end of the year.
