International conference launches European HIV Nursing Network
Here is a wonderful new development to tell you all about – the creation of a new organisation called the European HIV Nursing Network. A small team, the “interim steering group”, not only set up this organisation, but managed to get an international conference organised and expertly delivered in Warsaw, Poland, in April.
The steering group, in collaboration with HIV-TRI (the HIV Training and Resource Initiative – see www.hivtri.com) met regularly at RCN headquarters and were able to secure funding to ensure that two nurses could attend from every country in the Europe region as defined by WHO.
Although a working knowledge of English was a requirement for participating in the conference, everyone had great fun networking and trying to build bridges between colleagues from many different countries, with varying degrees of a common language. Mind you, Russian came a close second to English!
