SRE Review announced
A new review of sex and relationship education has been outlined by ministers with the aim of improving SRE in both primary and secondary schools. The review will look at how to ensure consistency in teaching, identification and sharing of best practice, use of external professionals, reflecting the views of parents and complementing their roles, referrals to specialist advice, and supporting and encouraging school heads and senior management to provide better leadership on SRE.
Research has also been commissioned by the DH and, as part of this, school nurses throughout the country have been asked to complete detailed questionnaires. However, there is concern from the Professional Officer of Unite/Community Practitioner’s and Health Visitor’s Association that there are too few school nurses employed to undertake this important work.
