RCN Congress 2012

First steps for health care assistants (HCAs): A series of webinars exploring the RCNs web-based resource for HCAs
First Steps is a web-based interactive resource that will support HCAs, employers and trainers with their induction programme. The learning sessions align with the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework and there are printable assessments that cover the National Occupational Standards relevant to those working at Level 2 of the Career Framework.
By participating in this webinar, you will:
- find your way around this exciting resource
- discover the range of multimedia used throughout the resource and how to use the traffic lights to note your progress
- discuss how the resource could be useful to your colleagues or organisation.
Webinars will be taking place on Thursday 23 February from 12-1pm, Thursday 1 March from 1-2pm and Tuesday 6 March from 1-2pm.

Prevent, promote and protect; public health is everybody's business

Older people's nursing: Current challenges and future potentials

This practice-led conference is aimed at practitioners at all levels and working in all settings including acute services, community care and care homes. In the context of the challenges we face, join us to debate, analyse and determine how we can improve the services we offer to older people.

Best practice in dementia care
This is a six part self-study course for care home staff, health care assistants in hospital and day centre staff. Course content covers understanding dementia, seeing the person, communication and behaviour, providing support, health and wellbeing and legal issues.

Record keeping for health care support workers

This afternoon seminar is designed to identify the principles of accurate record keeping and explore ways of developing related skills for the health care support worker. Topics covered:
- clinical governance – the legal context of record keeping
