HCAs and APs urged to join forum steering committees
Published: 02 May 2012
Health care assistant (HCA) and assistant practitioner (AP) RCN members are encouraged to apply to sit on a steering committee for one of the College’s specialist forums.
There are 35 specialist nursing forums in the RCN covering areas like cancer and breast care, mental health and older people.
The forums allow members to connect with each other and share ideas, and actively influence care and RCN and UK-wide policy. For example, forum projects include clinical guidance publications, research and conferences on nursing specialties.
There are 17 forums with vacancies on their steering committees. Applications need to be submitted by 10 May, with interviews taking place between 25 June and 17 July.
Applicants should be committed to the RCN and its work, passionate about nursing and the difference it can make, ready and willing to share expertise and able to contribute and lead cutting edge work to improve nursing practice and the delivery of care.
Chair of Forum Chairs David Quayle is actively encouraging HCAs and APs to put themselves forward.
He said: “I would strongly encourage HCAs and APs to join a forum steering committee – everyone has skills to bring to the table and the committees benefit from sharing different types of training.
“I’d tell any HCAs or APs interested to go for it! Why not?”
