Summary
This study course involves participants completing a set of six self study booklets.
Each booklet is designed to help understanding and encourage responses to individuals with dementia in a person centred way. At the end of each booklet you will find a reflective exercise that requires a written answer.
This course aims to help participants develop existing skills and gain new knowledge and understanding that will improve their caring of people with dementia. This knowledge will empower learners, increase confidence and encourage reflective practice.
We will train a senior member of your staff to become a facilitator at our training centre. They will support the participants in developing reflective practice, lead discussions and deliver the course material over six months back in the workplace with our regular support. Once trained this facilitator is registered with us and can go on to train further groups of staff.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this training, learners will be able to:
- exhibit a greater understanding of dementia and its impact upon individuals
- engage in reflective evaluation of caring interventions and change practice accordingly
- understand a person centred approach to care
- demonstrate evidence-based interventions
- demonstrate a more expansive use of communication skills when interacting and understanding the needs of people with dementia
- recognise the role of the carer/family, their needs and the support networks.
Study hours: 60 over a six month period
