What is a webinar and how can I take part?

A webinar is a training session that is conducted over the telephone and the internet using a web conferencing system. This web conferencing system allows you to view live presentations from your desktop as well as listen and speak to the presenter over the telephone, and take part in the online training session. All you need to join a webinar is a good internet connection and access to a telephone.

Once you have identified a webinar you would like to attend in the programme below, register by filling in a registration form. The RCN will then email you with instructions on how to join the webinar. The RCN will also supply a freephone number to dial so that you can speak to the presenter, listen to the presentation and take part in the online training session.

British Nursing Index webinars

Learn more about finding journal articles using British Nursing Index (BNI). This session is designed for you to learn how to define your search so as to maximise your chance of finding the most relevant journal articles, learn how to search BNI to find abstracts and full-text journal articles, get tips from an RCN information professional and ask questions about BNI.

CINAHL webinars

CINAHL is the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature. It includes details of journal articles related to nursing and midwifery published in the UK, US and other countries. Most of the records on CINAHL include abstracts and many of the articles are available in full text online.

During the session you will have the opportunity to learn from an RCN information professional how to undertake a keyword search of CINAHL, how to use options to refine a search and how to identify and open full text articles. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.
