The bigger picture

What we include

We select items from credible and well-regarded sources. We do not and cannot, provide an encyclopaedia of content relating to every aspect of clinical governance. We aim to strike a balance. We choose content items on the basis that they add to our understanding of the fundamental areas of clinical governance and keep you up to date with the changing context of the quality improvement agenda in the United Kingdom.

In each of the country pages you will find the overarching strategies, standards and agencies are highlighted. See: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales.

Other content is arranged in five themes. In each of these themes key resources are mapped across the four countries and you will find the following items:

  • support from the RCN: products, services and publications
  • support from other agencies
  • information about key policy and reports
  • information about guidance and helpful tools.

The glossary provides definitions of selected terms from authoritative sources and aims to show how terms and concepts are presented and interpreted in current policy and practice.

Finding your way

You can use the links within this page or the menu on the left hand side to guide you around the country and theme pages, and to get to the further resources.

Pages introducing themes and resources will also guide you to the areas within each theme and cross-refer you to related pages.

Keeping up-to-date

These resources are regularly updated but we also offer a number of ways in which you can keep up-to-date with clinical governance news and further resources and initiatives. For details see updates.
