Diabetes - good practice examples
Examples of good practice and case studies demonstrate through a particular situation or initiative how evidence has been integrated into current practice.
The following resources share good practice and offer examples of how diabetes care and services are being delivered. They were last accessed on 1 November 2012.
Diabetes UK: Sharing your practice
Diabetes UK is sharing examples of diabetes services to stimulate debate and encourage service development. There is an A-Z of examples which can be searched by search term and topic. The examples can also be accessed via Care topics which group together examples using a list of headings which includes: black and minority ethnic communities; commissioning; emotional and psychological support; integrated care; diabetes care in schools; user involvement; weight management. The 'Care topics' section of the Diabetes UK website also includes any organisational position statements, care recommendations, practice criteria and other useful links.
NHS Diabetes: Diabetes success stories
NHS Diabetes is a national organisation supporting improvement in diabetes services. These success stories show how NHS organisations across England have improved diabetes services in their region and provide useful information for others wishing to replicate their successes. The stories are arranged under headings which include: Footcare; self care management; education and training for HCPs; avoiding admissions and improving inpatient care; quality improvement and commissioning.
You can also use the case studies available in the RCN learning area Diabetes essentials to explore different scenarios and apply your understanding to each situation – see Diabetes essentials: Applying my learning – case studies.
