Diabetes - Wales
According to Diabetes UK more than 160,000 people in Wales have been diagnosed with diabetes and it is estimated that 66,000 more people have the condition but have not yet been diagnosed see Diabetes UK: Diabetes in Wales.

Diabetes Delivery Plan consultation asks what can Wales expect from the NHS?
The Welsh Government has launched a consultation to ask for opinions on the delivery of diabetes care in Wales. 'Together for Health – A Diabetes Delivery Plan' will be open to comment for a period of 12 weeks. The delivery plan is designed to support and inform NHS efforts to prevent and treat diabetes and tackle its consequences across Wales. It also makes clear what the Welsh public can expect of NHS diabetes care by 2015 -16. The consultation closes on 15 March 2013. Welsh Assembly Government (2002) National Service Framework for Diabetes (Wales) (PDF 87.8KB)
The framework document, adapted from the English National Service Framework, presents 12 standards along with rationales, key interventions and an analysis of the implications for planning services.
NHS Wales (2003) National Service Framework for diabetes in Wales delivery strategy (PDF 313KB)
The strategy sets the scene for diabetes care in Wales. It describes the actions and structures required to support the implementation of the National Service Framework in general terms and then in detail for each of the 12 standards.
Welsh Assembly Government (2008) Designed for the management of adults with diabetes mellitus across Wales: consensus guidelines
The All Wales Consensus Group have developed these guidelines to provide support for implementation of the diabetes National Service Framework. The guidelines will assist in the planning of services, improving the quality of services and reducing inequalities in diabetes care across Wales.
