RCN Learning Zone
Regardless of the role that you currently work in, the Learning Zone has information suitable for everyone.
The RCN Learning Zone provides an online learning resource Assessing and treating acute pain in children which highlights the recommendations from the clinical practice guideline. The resource includes:
- an introduction to pain - information surrounding children's pain including: what is pain and an overview of the physiology of pain transmission.
- pain assessment - the rationale and importance of pain assessment.
- pain assessment tools - Find out which of the 35 tools (including OUCHER, Faces, Comfort, Paediatric Pain Profile) validated by the RCN are appropriate for use in a given scenario by using the Learning Zone's interactive resource.
- alleviating pain - what pain relief methods are used to alleviate pain in children? This is discussed here along with information on how guidelines from the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists in postoperative and procedural pain can be implemented into your practice.
