The purpose of the Principles of Nursing Practice

"These Principles of Nursing Practice describe what everyone can expect from nursing; they represent the RCN’s dedication to excellence in nursing care.
We know there are many financial challenges facing the UK, and we are aware that nurses are working tirelessly, often under great pressure, to deliver the best care for patients. It is therefore essential for us to support nursing staff, wherever possible, as clearly and as resolutely as we can.
The Principles of Nursing Practice allow us to do just that: they make clear exactly what quality nursing care looks like and provide a framework for supporting the evaluation of care through the development of useful measures.
The RCN is committed to driving forward quality improvements – these Principles are an invaluable contribution to that task."
