There is no substitute for hearing from the people in the excluded groups themselves. This Voices section contains links to publications and other media, such as videos, that try to capture the lived experience of their situation.

Crisis Changing Lives award winners' stories 2010. Crisis, in partnership with Barclays, offers grants to single homeless people moving towards a chosen line of work. These are stories from the 2009 ward winners. See also the Changing Lives award winners' stories 2009 and success stories.

Homeless documentary on You Tube
This short film made in 2007 by University of Portsmouth students features a homeless man who has schizophrenia, is an alcoholic and is separated from his wife.

No Second Night Out (NSNO): Real stories
The No Second Night Out (NSNO) project was launched in April 2011 to  provide a rapid response which aims to ensure that those who find themselves sleeping rough in London for the first time need not spend a second night on the streets. Since the project started it has helped over 700 people off the streets. This page in the project’s website tells the stories of some of these people.

Unknown Voices
The Unknown Voices project began in 2007 with the aim of raising public awareness of the issues facing people whose voices are rarely heard. The website includes audio-recordings of interviews with 32 people who have experienced homelessness.
