Collections and catalogue

Search the collections

To access the archives catalogue, use the advanced search. Enter a search term in the search box. Use either single words or simple phrases such as ‘district nursing’ or ‘Platt report’ when searching. Searches using common words such as ‘report’ or ‘committee’ will produce a long list of results.

How do I access the records?

  1. Note the item you would like to see from the catalogue.
  2. Complete a photocopy request form for published (Word 34KB) or unpublished (Word 31KB) documents. The copyright declaration must be signed. If you are unsure which form to use, please contact archives@rcn.org.uk for advice
  3. Arrange your payment as instructed on the form.
  4. Payment will be held until the archives team confirm they are able to assist with your enquiry.
  5. Your enquiry will be answered by email and payment will be taken.

Alternatively, make an appointment to visit the RCN Archives. We can also provide access to some records at the RCN's headquarters in London, by appointment. If you cannot find what you require or need help understanding the catalogue, please contact archives@rcn.org.uk with your enquiry.

Enquiries

The archives team answer enquiries relating to the development of nursing and other health care professions and about RCN history. The team can provide historical information and can assist your research by offering advice on many aspects of historical research including information search skills, academic contacts and ongoing historical projects.
