Welcome to the RCN forum area on the website where you will learn about the vital work of the forums and what they have to offer members.

I have recently been appointed chair of the Forums Governance Group (FGG). I am looking forward to working closely with the forums, as they work to shape and influence health policy and practice. As Chair of FGG I ensure that the work of the forums reflects the strategic objectives and priorities of the RCN whilst representing the views of forum members.

Forums are open to all members, including students and HCAs, and are free to join. Read more below to see why you should belong to a forum and then why not join online today?

Steve Jamieson, Head of Nursing DepartmentSteve Jamieson is head of the RCN's Nursing Department

As Head of the Nursing Department, I am privileged to be a part of the invaluable work that the RCN forums are undertaking across the country. The specialist forums are an essential part of the RCN, enabling health professionals to connect with each other and develop nursing care in a range of settings. Forum members are advised and supported by the staff in the RCN Nursing Department; together our Nursing Advisers and Nursing Co-ordinators help each forum to achieve its individual goals. What are forums?

The RCN Forums are an essential part of our organisation, enabling our members to come together and help to shape the world of nursing practice and policy. They are run for our members, by our members, and supported by the Nursing Department team.

Forums are groups of RCN members working in a similar nursing specialty or with like interests. Thousands of RCN members throughout the UK use forums to connect with each other, share ideas and achieve real change. They are able to enhance their practice knowledge and skills and be part of a team that identifies, promotes and develops future nurse leaders in their chosen field.

Whether leading the way on a steering committee, or keeping up to date with important developments, forum members are at the cutting edge of the work of the RCN.

Each of the forums has their own online community and area on the Discussion Zone - packed with the latest news on the forum's work.

Each forum receives dedicated support from highly skilled RCN Nursing Department advisers as well as access to our online communities. Forum committee members will be supported with a tailor-made development program and new processes will ensure that forums have resources when they need them so they can respond to the fast-changing world of health and social care more effectively.

How do I join a forum?

If you are interested in joining a forum visit the Join a forum today page to find out how. Remember, forum membership is open to all RCN members, including HCAs and nursing students.
