University of Stirling

  • PGCert/PGDip/MSc in dementia studies

    This programme is for professionals and practitioners working in any field of dementia care and attracts students equally from health and social care.  The programme is provided by distance learning and aims to promote better practice in dementia care and to provide professionals and practitioners with academic and research skills. 
    In September 2010, in addition to our main programme, we will be running standalone modules on Palliative and end of life care for people with dementia and Design, technology and dementia care. Both of these modules will involve a one-day introductory session here at the Dementia Services Development Centre or other locations if there are sufficient numbers locally, followed by 14 weeks of online learning using dedicated module websites.

    The School of Policy Studies at the University of Ulster is currently running part-time courses in social research skills via e-learning. A range of flexible options are available.     The DrPH programme is intended for leaders and future leaders in public health practice. They face the particular challenge of understanding and adapting scientific knowledge in order to achieve health gain and results. To do this, they need to be equipped with the skills crucial for leadership roles in public health policy and practice rather than in research. The DrPH is a unique course in that respect, nevertheless the intellectual and academic standards of the DrPH are as high as that of the PhD. The programme is offered by the departments of Epidemiology & Population Health, Infectious & Tropical Diseases and Public Health & Policy.
