Funding opportunities

Nurses have an important role in research.  Improving patient care is at the forefront of research and working on the front-line puts nurses in the ideal position to contribute to the research process and indeed lead research projects. 

As finding research funding is such a significant part of the research process, and identifying potential funding sources can take a considerable amount of time the RCN has developed a list of funding opportunities open to nurse. Whilst this is in no way comprehensive, we hope it is a starting point. Of course, applying for grants and obtaining the money is much harder, as anecdotal evidence suggests that only 1 in 7 bids for funding is successful.  As competition for research money is fierce, having up-to-date details on funding opportunities is a great help.
