UK wide activity

Higher Education Joint Liaison Committee. Michael Traynor attended meeting on 10 Jan 2013.
RCN Congress 2013. Three fringes approved:
(a) Leading innovation in healthcare;
(b) Caring conversations - the heart of delivering compassionate care;
(c) Contributing to the UK Clinical Research Agenda - career development and opportunities for clinical research nurses
Marjorie Simpson New Researcher Award. 19 submissions received. Judging panel met on 22 Dec 2012. Suzanne Watts is the 2013 winner.
Akinsanya award for innovation in doctoral studies in nursing. 12 submissions received, with 4 going through to short list. Judging panel met on 22 Jan 2013. Ronalda Agnew is the 2013 Akinsanya Scholar.
Winifred Raphael Memorial Lecture. The 2013 WRML is awarded to RCN Research Society Yorkshire and the Humber region, and will be held in Sheffield, date in Oct 2013 TBC
RCN R&D Governance Group. Meeting held on 16 Jan 2013.
RCN Frontline First - Lightbulb innovations. Lightbulb innovations published this month include:
(a) The development of a pathway for dealing with babies with palliative care needs
Building capacity to conduct economic assessments of nursing innovations (RCN/OPM/Burdett). Training day 1 for the first Wales cohort
Research Society Steering Committee. Teleconference held on 25 Jan 2013.
AUKUH Clinical Academic Careers Development Group for NMAHPs. Meeting held on 23 Jan 2013.
RCN R&D refresh. Workshop held on 16 Jan 2013. Information gathering exercise conducted between 18 - 25 Jan 2013. Initial collation of data between 28 - 31 Jan 2013.

International activity

RCN 2013 Annual International Nursing Research Conference. Late breaking abstracts invited between 07 - 21 Jan 2013. 8 received. 5 accepted, 3 rejected. Deadline for Expressions of Interest for fringes on 31 Jan 2013. 6 received.
